Room prices?

Alright, guys, I know Magfest 12 is over. But I want to start preparing now so that way I'm not scrambling to get friends' money three days before pre-registration deadlines like this past year, so I'm working on budgeting work here.

This past year, event rates for the standard room were $150.
Atrium view were $190.

What were the rates for suites? I don't seem to remember, but might be looking into it for next year.

I was curious about the Gaylord myself. I know for various other events the resort likes to tack on a resort fee to the rooms each day (which has made me stay at the Hampton Inn across the street each year), but I was wondering if Magfest rates were able to get this fee waived for the events?

I booked pretty early, in August or September I think, and got a MAGFest rate of 135$ per night, plus 15$ per night (that was the resort fee I think), plus 15% per night (taxes and stuff). The final cost was 550$ including parking, for three nights (Thur-Sun). That was the regular 4-person room, by the way.

bit of inside info so you can all prepare better:

hotel room prices are going up every year about 5 or 10 bucks. its something we couldnt avoid. we already get the lowest rate anyone can possibly squeeze out of the gaylord, and our contract for the next few years says that rate is coming up a little. it shouldnt affect much, but if you're trying to budget down to your last $20, keep it in mind.

Thanks for the heads up!

And for others planning for next year: The hotel website stated it was $135 plus $15 for parking. When I arrived, they told me $16 for parking. Then on the bill, there was an additional $15 resort fee per night, resulting in an additional $60 out of pocket I didn't plan on or expect when I split the room cost between me and friends. So always plan for an additional jump in price compared to your own budgeting.

This is what I was informed of recently concerning this past year's prices (including resort fees):

Regular room - $150/night
Atrium view room - $190/night
Suite - $230/night

Remember to add parking, taxes (which I believe were 16%, according to the email I got beforehand), and the additional increase in price.

How many can a suite hold, comfortably (I consider 4 in a double queen room comfortable).

The depends on how people like to sleep.....

There is one bed, but a fold-out sofa bed in most cases as well. Technically making two separate sleeping areas, but one of them is in the living (or partying) space. In can fit a lot more in sleeping bags and air matresses, due to the increase in floor space. Personally, I'd say maybe one or two air mattresses at most would fit, making it "comfortable" for between 6-8 people. After that, people are sleeping on the floor.

That said....I'm a cheap skate with hotel rooms. I crashed in a sleeping bag myself, in the exact space that my bag fits on the floor. I think we fit 10 people in that suite, but I was in and out so much, I never met everyone, heh.

We got 9 in our suite comfortably with only one person on the king sized bed (no queens for suites, and nobody bothered to share it). We had more people fighting over the closet than the bed. That thing is huge and can hold a twin sized mattress/cot with room for belongings.
